Red Cross Disaster Chair Steve Callari retires
Lee County Chapter executes successful drill to kick off National Volunteer Week

FORT MYERS, April 29 – Following a successful disaster preparedness drill Saturday, April 26, Steve Callari, Chair of Disaster Services, has resigned his position. He will stay active with the chapter in an advisory role.
Callari has been with the Lee County chapter since 2002. An expert in mass care and sheltering, Callari took the lead in the chapter’s response to Hurricane Charley in 2004 and has been atop the volunteer leadership ever since.
He has been recognized both locally and nationally for his service.
“He will be sorely missed by all,” Disaster Services Coordinator John Cain said. “His dedication and knowledge of the Red Cross is
beyond compare.”                                                                     Steve Callari
The week of April 27 to May 3 marks National Volunteer Week, a time to celebrate those who make a difference in their communities and inspire others to discover their power to be agents for social change. National Volunteer Week has been recognized every year since 1974, when President Richard Nixon signed an executive order to establish the week as an annual celebration of volunteering.
As the nation's largest volunteer organization, the American Red Cross is a leader in providing meaningful opportunities for people from all walks of life to help those in need. The Red Cross depends on volunteers to provide relief to victims of disaster, provide support and communications to military members and families, teach lifesaving skills such as first aid and water safety, and respond to calls for assistance from our sister societies in other nations.
