International Services
Armed conflict and natural disaster leave millions of people around the globe in urgent need of humanitarian assistance every year. Adding to the physical losses, the confusion and chaos surrounding war and natural disasters, families are often separated when they need each other most.
Tragically, during these separations their suffering is greater. But through the strength of the Red Cross Movement and the work of tracing volunteers at national societies around the world, including the American Red Cross, families can locate and reconnect. The American Red Cross fulfills this mission through its International Family Tracing Services unit in Washington, DC and the Holocaust and War Victims Tracing Center at the Central Maryland Chapter in Baltimore, Maryland.
The American Red Cross of Lee County can help to:
- Locate family members, who are citizens of other countries and have been separated by war, internal conflict, or humanitarian emergencies.
- Restore family communications across international borders.
- New resource to use during disaster to locate loved one or state your location is the Safe and Well website – found through https://disastersafe.redcross.org/
- Tracing requests may be received from residents in the United States for relatives in foreign countries.
Requests also come from persons overseas through the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and other national Red Cross and Red Crescent societies.
